Oyster - Velvet brings together a rich palette of gold, blush, crimson and pearl against a deep, almost velvety ground. The organic form enters the composition from the edge of the canvas, its fluid surface contrasting with the stillness and openness of the surrounding space.
Created through successive layers of poured and manipulated acrylic, the work allows colour and material to find their own paths across the canvas. Metallic and pearlescent passages catch the light differently as the viewer moves around the work, while folds, edges and flowing traces give the central form an almost sculptural presence.

LILAS is the artistic identity of Laurence van der Sande, artist and co-founder of VAN DER SANDE. The name brings together the initials of Lidewij and Laurence, reflecting the personal world from which the work originates.
Her abstract paintings explore colour, movement and chance through an intuitive process of pouring, splashing and layering paint directly onto the canvas. Rather than beginning with a fixed composition, each work evolves through the physical act of painting, allowing gesture, gravity and spontaneity to shape the final image.
